So I take it this 5 weeks was to completely pin down the direction of the final arc. I don't think this arc is ending any time soon (or I hope not). There's too much stuff to be resolved for it to be any shorter than the Arrancar arc. Though on the other hand, the Arrancar arc was so long because of volumes-long Espada battles and drawn out fights with Fracciones, one by one. Looking back, it was actually quite ridiculous.

But even though Kubo's fixed the pacing of things, there are more enemies, more allies, and just too much stuff needing to happen for this arc to be done with - Stern Ritter, Yhwach, the Royal Guard, whatever's going on with the Soul King, whatever Aizen's going to do, the thing with Uryu... I don't reckon the whole thing's going to be finished with just a big battle, that was just a punchy statement to build hype or something. After dragging out the Arrancar stuff, it would be a real shame if Kubo then had to rush the current stuff.

The separation can't really be between shinigami and quincy though. They have always been separated at large to begin with. More so, they have believes and ideals which are at large incompatible with that of the other side which is to a great extent why they fight. The separation has to be about something else. Maybe a permanent separation between the living and spiritual world or perhaps indeed a separation between ichigo and his peers. Ichigo already showed us he was a whim away from being a god among ants when he fought aizen, the idea of him ending up as the soul king is not far fetched at all.
